In this blog article, we will be explaining FTP related access to wordpress sites. Generally developers used to face issues with FTP uploads or wordpress plugins installs via wp-admin.

It happens due to incorrect user\/group file permissions<\/strong> given to wordpress files. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To accomplish this, we need to do the following:-
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Create a new user and strong password <\/h4>\n\n\n\n
$ useradd devs\n\n$ sudo passwd devs\nenter password for user devs\nNew password:<\/pre>\n\n\n\n
2. Modify user folder to point to wordpress document root
<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
$ usermod -d \/var\/www\/pheonixsolutions.com devs<\/pre>\n\n\n\n
3. Add user to the apache group<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
First you should check the username of your webserver application. Mostly it will be apache or www-data<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
$ usermod -g apache devs<\/pre>\n\n\n\n
4. Change ownership<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
$ cd \/var\/www\/pheonixsolutions.com\n$ chow devs:apache \/var\/www\/pheonixsolutions.com -R<\/pre>\n\n\n\n
5. Make files writable by user\/group<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
$ find . -type f -exec chmod 664 {} \\;\n$ find . -type d -exec chmod 775 {} \\;<\/pre>\n\n\n\n
You should be able to upload files without issues. Also you can install\/delete\/update new plugins via wp-admin flawlessly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
