It then uses the configuration from the\u00a0<code>\/etc\/fstab<\/code>\u00a0file to mount the disk that is configured to mount to your backup directory. When the backup and additional destination transport processes have completed, cPanel automatically unmounts the backup disk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Procedure<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Log in to WHM as the root user<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pheonixsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/image-8.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"580\" height=\"503\" src=\"https:\/\/pheonixsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/image-8.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6765\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pheonixsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/image-8.png 580w, https:\/\/pheonixsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/image-8-300x260.png 300w, https:\/\/pheonixsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/image-8-346x300.png 346w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Navigate to\u00a0Home&gt;&gt;Backup&gt;&gt;Backup configuration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pheonixsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/image-9.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"189\" height=\"109\" src=\"https:\/\/pheonixsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/image-9.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6766\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>3. Check to see what directory you have set for &#8220;Default Backup Directory&#8221; and &#8220;Backup Staging Directory&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-style-default\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pheonixsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/image-10.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"839\" height=\"745\" src=\"https:\/\/pheonixsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/image-10.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6767\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pheonixsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/image-10.png 839w, https:\/\/pheonixsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/image-10-300x266.png 300w, https:\/\/pheonixsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/image-10-768x682.png 768w, https:\/\/pheonixsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/image-10-338x300.png 338w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 839px) 100vw, 839px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>4. If those directories are not set properly update them to the path of the directory that will be used to mount your backup disk. They are usually set to the same directory unless you have a special use case outside of the norm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5. Log in to the server via SSH as the root user, or use the Terminal feature in WHM as the root user.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pheonixsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/image-11.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"247\" height=\"69\" src=\"https:\/\/pheonixsolutions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/image-11.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6768\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>6. Create a backup of the \/etc\/fstab\/\u00a0configuration so that you can restore it if a mistake is made:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">cp -v \/etc\/fstab{,$(date +.%Y-%b-%d-%H-%M-%S)}\n\n7. Open the \/etc\/fstab file with the text editor of your choice<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WARNING<\/strong>: Making a mistake in the \/etc\/fstab configuration can result in a failure of the server to boot. Do\u00a0<strong>not<\/strong>\u00a0edit this file unless you are fully confident in your ability to modify this file safely. If you have any reservations or concerns about making this edit on your own, you must reach out to a systems administrator with the skills, training, and expertise required to make the edit for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>8. Create a mount configuration that will mount your backup disk to the same directory that you have set in your cPanel backup configuration. You may use the\u00a0noauto option to prevent this disk from being mounted when the server boots so that cPanel can mount and unmount the disk as needed. If you need help with determining how to make this configuration, review the manual page for fstab: man fstab, or contact a systems administrator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>9. Once the\u00a0\/etc\/fstab\/ file has been updated, go back to the backup configuration\u00a0interface in WHM and put a checkbox next to the option labeled &#8220;Mount Backup Drive as Needed&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>10. Click the &#8220;Save Configuration&#8221; button at the bottom of the Backup configuration\u00a0\u00a0interface in WHM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>11.
