{"id":7195,"date":"2023-05-15T09:30:17","date_gmt":"2023-05-15T04:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pheonixsolutions.com\/blog\/?p=7195"},"modified":"2023-05-15T09:36:12","modified_gmt":"2023-05-15T04:06:12","slug":"how-to-upgrade-the-os-from-ubuntu-18-04-to-ubuntu-20-04","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pheonixsolutions.com\/blog\/how-to-upgrade-the-os-from-ubuntu-18-04-to-ubuntu-20-04\/","title":{"rendered":"How to upgrade the OS from Ubuntu 18.04 to Ubuntu 20.04\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Introduction:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><\/strong>In this section we are going to see how to upgrade the OS of Ubuntu 18.04 to Ubuntu 20.04 in a vps.<br><br><strong>Prerequisites:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Server root login credentials<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Backup of the server in case if anything goes wrong<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Procedure:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Step 1: Update the current apt repository<br><br>$ sudo apt update<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Step 2: Next upgrade the installed packages to the latest using<br><br>$ sudo apt upgrade<br><br>Step 3: After upgrade to perform the missed list of upgrades using<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">$ sudo apt dist-upgrade -y&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Step 4: Now to upgrade the OS using do release upgrade tool<br><br>$ sudo do-release-upgrade<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This will start the upgrade process and during the upgardation process it will ask for the confirmation to proceed. Proceed with the \u201cyes(y)\u201d option and also with the default selection through the process.<br><br>Finally after the upgrade process it will ask for a system reboot and confirm with \u201cyes\u201d.<br><br>This will reboot the server and once the reboot is completed check the OS version using&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">$ lsb_release -a<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure
