Introduction:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Logical Volume Management (LVM) is a powerful tool in Linux that allows for dynamic resizing and management of storage space. As data requirements grow, the need to extend Logical Volumes becomes common to accommodate increasing storage demands without disruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 1:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Check there is enough free space in the volume group (VG) for the extension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

$ vgdisplay<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Step 2:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If there is not enough space, we might need to add physical volumes or expand the existing ones to the volume group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

$ pvdisplay
$ vgextend <VG_name> \/dev\/<additional_device><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Step 3:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once we have enough free space in the volume group, extend the logical volume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

$ lvextend -l +3G \/dev\/<VG_name>\/<LV_name><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Step 4:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After extending the LV, We need to resize the file system to make use of the added space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

$ resize2fs \/dev\/<VG_name>\/<LV_name><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
