Introduction

This error occurs in R1Soft when creating a backup through CDP (Continuous Data Protection). The issue usually happens after resizing the filesystem or disk volume on the server.

Prerequisites

  • Access to R1Soft CDP Server
  • Backup host already added in CDP
  • Proper administrative permissions

Implementation

Error

CDP returns the following error while creating a backup of the server:

Not enough data in the sum file to read BlockSum.

Cause

This error generally indicates that the filesystem or volume has been resized.

Resolution

You will need to create a new Disk Safe.

Steps to Create a New Disk Safe

  1. Log in to the CDP Server
  2. Navigate to:

Hosts → [IP address of the added host]

  1. Click on Disk Safes from the menu
  2. Select New Disk Safe from the top-right corner of the page
  3. You will receive the prompt:

Continue starting new Disk Safe for 10.5.1.124?

  1. Click “Continue” and create the new Disk Safe
    • Leave all settings as the default
  2. Initiate the backup again

This will fix the issue.

Conclusion

By creating a new Disk Safe in R1Soft, the backup process can be reinitialised successfully after filesystem or volume resizing changes.
